MotoGP: Marc Márquez Dominates Aragón Sprint After Bezzecchi Takes Record Pole

Reigning MotoGP world champion Marc Márquez produced a dominant performance at MotorLand Aragón on Saturday, winning the sprint after Marco Bezzecchi had earlier claimed a surprise pole position with a new circuit record.

Bezzecchi set the benchmark in qualifying with a remarkable 1:44.962 lap, becoming the first rider to break the 1:45 barrier at the circuit. The Aprilia rider finished just 0.089 seconds ahead of Márquez, while Álex Márquez completed the front row in third.

Starting from second, Marc Márquez made an immediate move at the opening corner, passing Bezzecchi to seize the lead. The Ducati rider then controlled the sprint from the front and crossed the line ahead of his brother Álex, with Bezzecchi settling for third.

The victory marked Márquez's third sprint triumph at Aragón and his 20th victory in the sprint format. It also continued his impressive record at MotorLand, where he has traditionally enjoyed considerable success.

Márquez was pleased with the way he managed the race after making his decisive move at the first corner. His victory also strengthens his position in the championship battle as he attempts to close the gap to leader Jorge Martín.

Álex Márquez completed another strong outing by finishing second, while Bezzecchi had to settle for third despite starting from pole and showing exceptional pace in qualifying.

The result was less encouraging for championship leader Martín. The Aprilia rider qualified fifth and finished the sprint in the same position, leaving Bezzecchi 29 points behind him in the standings. Márquez moved to third, a further four points behind Bezzecchi.

Bezzecchi's record-breaking qualifying performance had initially suggested that he could challenge the Márquez brothers for victory. His pole was the 12th of his MotoGP career, but the Italian was unable to convert his starting advantage into sprint victory.

The main Aragón Grand Prix will take place on Sunday, with Bezzecchi starting from pole and Márquez alongside him on the front row. The sprint result has set up another major battle between the leading championship contenders.
