Monaco Grand Prix Extends F1 Contract to 2035; Alex Dunne Prepares for Monza Debut

Posted : 05 September 2025

The Monaco Grand Prix has secured its place on the Formula 1 calendar with a contract extension through 2035. Meanwhile, 19-year-old Irish driver Alex Dunne is preparing for another milestone, stepping into F1 practice sessions at Monza after an impressive debut in Austria.

Monaco Grand Prix Locked In Until 2035

One of Formula 1’s most historic and glamorous events, the Monaco Grand Prix has extended its agreement with F1 for four more years, building on its existing deal that ran until 2031. First held in 1929, the street circuit remains largely unchanged, preserving a century-old racing tradition.

Prince Albert II of Monaco welcomed the extension, highlighting the Principality’s commitment to the sport. “The renewal of the Monaco Grand Prix until 2035 reflects our sporting and historical tradition,” he said. “It is a testament to our collective success, the excellence of our collaboration with Formula 1, and the unique place Monaco occupies in international motorsport.”

F1 chairman Stefano Domenicali also praised the event, emphasizing its special atmosphere. “The streets of Monaco have echoed with the sound of Formula 1 since the earliest days of the sport. It is an iconic race loved by all drivers and fans, with a unique vibe thanks to its location in the world’s most glamorous Principality.”

Alex Dunne Gears Up for Monza FP1

Irish teenager Alex Dunne continues to make waves in Formula 1 after a standout first practice session at the Austrian Grand Prix. At just 19, Dunne followed seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton onto the circuit, posting the fourth-fastest time of the opening session, just 0.069 seconds behind McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri.

“It was a very special day for me,” Dunne told BBC Sport NI. “Even driving out of the pitlane and seeing the Irish flags waving, being on track with the best drivers in the world was super cool. It went pretty well too, which made it even more special.”

Dunne will now take part in the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, one of Formula 1’s most historic circuits, again stepping in for Piastri during the opening practice session. “I set the bar high in Austria, so if I don’t improve on that, I’ll be a little disappointed,” he said. “I feel comfortable in the F1 car and the simulator. Every time I’m driving, I’m getting better, which is a great place to be. FP1 is an opportunity to show what you can do, but it’s not the session to try and be a hero. It’s important to do the things you know and have learned correctly; the rest will fall into place.”
