McLaren's CEO Zak Brown anticipates a fiercely competitive Formula One season, predicting a four-way battle for the driver and constructors' championships. The team, having been crowned constructors' champions last year for the first time in 26 years, made a remarkable comeback, improving from fifth in 2022 to first in 2023. Brown believes that the field will be even tighter this season, with multiple teams capable of experiencing a similar turnaround in fortunes.
Red Bull's Max Verstappen will be pursuing his fifth consecutive championship title, though last season's performance was not as dominant as his previous ones.
McLaren's drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, are expected to challenge Verstappen, alongside established rivals like Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari and Charles Leclerc. Hamilton, aiming for an eighth title at 40 years old, will be a key figure in the season, with his switch to Ferrari adding extra intrigue.
In addition to McLaren's rise, Brown highlighted the role of team principal Andrea Stella, who initially declined the position in 2020 due to not feeling ready. Stella, a former Ferrari member who joined McLaren in 2015, accepted the role in 2022 and played a crucial part in the team’s resurgence to the top.
