Max Verstappen receives cheeky BMW offer after Mercedes GT3 disqualification

Posted : 25 March 2026

BMW Motorsport has sparked significant social media buzz by offering Max Verstappen a seat in their M4 GT3 EVO. This playful recruitment attempt follows a dramatic turn of events during Verstappen's recent endurance racing appearance. The four-time Formula 1 world champion faced disqualification after initially dominating his debut in a Mercedes GT3 at the Nurburgring.

Verstappen competed in the NLS race during a break in the F1 schedule alongside teammates Daniel Juncadella and Jules Gounon. The trio displayed immense pace throughout the event, securing pole position by nearly two seconds. They eventually crossed the finish line almost a full minute ahead of their nearest rivals before the technical inspection began.

However, race officials later disqualified the entry due to a specific technical infringement regarding tyre usage. The stewards' report confirmed that Verstappen’s team used seven sets of tyres throughout the qualifying and race sessions combined. This exceeded the maximum limit of six sets permitted by the current sporting regulations.

The setback comes shortly after Verstappen’s team transitioned to Mercedes-AMG GT3 machinery for the 2026 season. They previously used Ferrari cars for their GT racing exploits before agreeing to a deal with the German manufacturer. Following the disqualification, BMW M Motorsport reached out via social media to suggest a brand switch for the Dutchman.

The German manufacturer told Verstappen they could provide a "real BMW M4 GT3 EVO" if he was interested in a change. The post quickly went viral, gaining over 160,000 views as fans reacted to the prospect of the Red Bull star representing another major brand. This lighthearted exchange provides a distraction from a difficult start to the 2026 Formula 1 season.

Verstappen currently sits in an uncharacteristic position after a sixth-place finish and a retirement in the opening rounds. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff recently described Verstappen's current car handling as a "horror show" following struggles in qualifying. The Red Bull driver is now shifting his focus back to Grand Prix duties as the paddock travels to Suzuka.
