Four-time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen has committed his long-term future to Red Bull by signing a new contract that will keep him with the team until the end of 2030. The agreement ends months of speculation about a possible departure from the championship.
The announcement comes just before Verstappen's home Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, where thousands of fans are expected to welcome the local hero. His previous agreement was due to run through 2028, meaning the new deal adds two more seasons to his Red Bull commitment.
Verstappen has enjoyed extraordinary success since joining Red Bull, winning four consecutive drivers' championships from 2021 through 2024. However, his 2026 campaign has been considerably more difficult, with the Dutchman yet to win a race and currently sitting sixth in the championship standings.
Red Bull's struggles under the new technical regulations sparked speculation that Verstappen could move to a rival such as Mercedes or McLaren. Instead, the 28-year-old has chosen to remain with the team and help lead its efforts to return to the front of the grid.
Verstappen said he remains excited about working with the Red Bull team and believes they have the people and resources required to fight for victories again. He also described the outfit as a second family, highlighting the strong relationship developed throughout his career.
The contract announcement adds another major storyline to the final Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort. Formula 1 will leave the circuit after the 2026 event, with the promoter deciding not to extend the agreement beyond this season.
Verstappen has been dominant at his home race since Zandvoort returned to the calendar in 2021, winning the first three editions. McLaren, however, has taken victory in the last two races, giving Verstappen extra motivation to end the circuit's F1 era with another home triumph.
