Marquez Claims Dominant Czech MotoGP Victory to Extend Championship Lead

Posted : 21 July 2025

Marc Marquez continued his stunning run of form with a dominant victory at the Czech MotoGP on Sunday, claiming his eighth win of the season and fifth in a row. The Spanish rider, representing the factory Ducati team, maintained complete control throughout the weekend, winning both the sprint race on Saturday and the main event on Sunday.

In front of a massive crowd of nearly 220,000 spectators at the newly resurfaced Brno circuit, Marquez finished the 21-lap race in 40 minutes and 4.628 seconds. He crossed the line 1.753 seconds ahead of Marco Bezzecchi, riding for Aprilia, while Pedro Acosta, representing KTM, secured his first podium finish of the season in third, trailing by 3.366 seconds.

The 32-year-old now sits comfortably atop the championship standings with 381 points, holding a massive 120-point lead over his younger brother, Alex Marquez, who crashed out on the second lap. Francesco Bagnaia, Marquez’s teammate at Ducati, is third overall, 168 points adrift after finishing fourth in the race.

“It’s been an incredible first half of the season,” Marquez said after the race. “I feel stronger and more confident with every lap. These past few races have been especially satisfying.”

The race began under clear skies with Bagnaia starting from pole position. However, he quickly lost the lead to Bezzecchi by the second lap, and Marquez soon followed suit. Acosta, who gained momentum after finishing second in Saturday’s sprint, also moved ahead to take third. By lap eight, Marquez had overtaken Bezzecchi, gradually building a comfortable lead and never looking back.

Bezzecchi acknowledged Marquez's pace, stating, “I enjoyed the early part of the race, but once Marc passed me, it was clear he had something extra. I tried to respond, but he was just too strong.”

Acosta, who has struggled with a forearm injury for much of the year, was thrilled with his return to the podium. “The last time I stood on the podium was in Thailand last year,” said the 21-year-old. “It’s been a long road back, and this means a lot.”

Elsewhere, reigning world champion Jorge Martin earned his first points of the season with a seventh-place finish. Martin missed the start of the season due to multiple injuries and had yet to complete a full race until Brno.

The race was not without incident. Alex Marquez crashed early, taking out Joan Mir in the process, while Enea Bastianini also retired after a fall. Japan’s Takaaki Nakagami was sidelined after sustaining a knee injury during Saturday’s sprint.

The MotoGP calendar now heads into a summer break, with racing set to resume at the Austrian Grand Prix from August 15 to 17. Despite the break, Marquez remains focused on his ultimate goal.

“There are still 10 races to go,” he said. “It’s time to rest a little, but I’ll return with the same intensity in Austria. The target is clear—my seventh world title.”

A seventh title would see Marquez draw level with Valentino Rossi and place him just one behind all-time record holder Giacomo Agostini, further cementing his place among MotoGP’s all-time greats.
