Marc Marquez Ruled Out of Next Two MotoGP Races After Shoulder Injury

Posted : 07 October 2025

Just a week after celebrating his seventh MotoGP world title, Marc Marquez has been ruled out of the next two rounds of the championship following a shoulder fracture and ligament injury sustained during the Indonesia Grand Prix on Sunday.

The Spaniard’s race at the Mandalika Circuit in Lombok came to an abrupt end on the opening lap after Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi collided with the back of his Ducati at high speed. Both riders were thrown into the gravel, though they managed to walk away from the crash—Marquez clutching his right shoulder in visible pain.

Ducati confirmed on Monday that Marquez had “suffered a fracture at the base of the coracoid process and a ligament injury to his right shoulder,” but clarified that the injury was unrelated to his previous shoulder problems.

Following medical evaluation in Madrid, Marquez’s doctors have opted for conservative treatment, recommending rest and immobilisation until the shoulder heals fully. As a result, he will miss the upcoming Grand Prix in Australia (October 17–19) and Malaysia (October 24–26).

Despite the setback, the Ducati team remains optimistic about his recovery, with two more races scheduled in Portugal (November 7–9) and Valencia (November 14–16) to close out the 22-race season.

“Fortunately, the injury isn’t severe, but it’s important to respect the recovery timeline,” Marquez said. “My goal is to return before the end of the season, but I won’t rush things beyond the doctors’ advice. Our main objectives have already been achieved, so now I’m focused on recovering fully.”

The 32-year-old Spaniard, who clinched the 2025 MotoGP world title at Motegi in Japan just a week earlier, will undergo weekly medical assessments to monitor his progress.

Marquez, who has battled multiple serious injuries over his career—including a broken right arm in 2020 that nearly ended his racing days—had been enjoying a remarkable comeback season, sealing his first world crown since 2019.
