Marc Marquez Targets Brno Success as MotoGP Title Race Intensifies

Posted : 18 June 2026

Seven-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez arrives at the Czech Grand Prix in Brno determined to reduce the gap to championship leader Marco Bezzecchi after a remarkable return from injury. The Spanish rider missed two races in May due to a broken foot but bounced back impressively earlier this month with victories in both the sprint and main race at Hungary’s Balaton Park circuit.

Marquez’s success in Hungary was aided by a dramatic first-corner incident involving title contender Jorge Martin. The Aprilia rider collided with teammate Bezzecchi and several other competitors, forcing both himself and the championship leader to retire from the race. As a result of the incident, Martin will serve a double long-lap penalty at Brno, with Aprilia management acknowledging that the punishment could have been even more severe.

After eight rounds of the 22-race season, Bezzecchi remains at the top of the standings with 180 points and four victories to his name. Martin occupies second place with 160 points, while Fabio Di Giannantonio sits third on 138 points despite being caught up in the Hungary crash. Marquez has climbed to fifth overall with 108 points following his landmark 100th MotoGP victory, which also marked Ducati’s 100th win in the premier class.

Although pleased with his return to winning ways, Marquez admits he has not yet reached his desired level after years of battling injuries. The 33-year-old believes his recovery remains a work in progress and sees the upcoming races at Brno and Assen as important tests before the summer break. Despite the challenges, he remains focused on competing for top results at every opportunity.

Meanwhile, Bezzecchi is eager to move past the disappointment of Hungary and continue his strong title challenge. The Italian rider escaped serious injury from the crash and has already turned his attention to Brno, where he hopes to regain momentum in the championship battle.

The Czech circuit holds positive memories for Marquez, who completed a race weekend sweep there last season and claimed his fourth MotoGP victory at the venue ahead of Bezzecchi. Another storyline to watch this weekend is the anticipated return of Marc’s younger brother, Alex Marquez, who has been sidelined for two races after suffering a broken collarbone and a minor vertebra fracture in a crash during the Catalan Grand Prix.

Brno returned to the MotoGP calendar last year after a five-year absence caused by financial difficulties. Improvements to the circuit have made it significantly faster, adding another challenge for riders as the championship enters a crucial phase. With only three races remaining before the summer break, every point could prove vital in the battle for the 2026 MotoGP crown.
