Marc Marquez Ends Season Early After Collarbone Injury

Posted : 24 October 2025
Marc Marquez has concluded his MotoGP season early after a collarbone injury sustained at the Indonesian Grand Prix.

Newly-crowned MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez has decided to end his season early following a collarbone injury sustained during the Indonesian Grand Prix earlier this month, his team Ducati confirmed on Thursday.

Just a week after sealing his seventh premier-class championship at the Japanese Grand Prix, the 32-year-old Spaniard was involved in a collision with Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi on the opening lap in Indonesia. The crash left Marquez with a fractured collarbone, forcing him to miss subsequent races.

Although initial medical reports showed positive recovery progress, Ducati revealed that Marquez’s injury requires four weeks of full arm immobilisation before rehabilitation can begin. As a result, he will not compete in the final two races of the season in Portugal and Valencia.

Reflecting on the decision, Marquez said it was necessary to prioritise his long-term health over short-term goals. “After analysing the entire situation, the most sensible choice is to respect the body’s natural recovery process, even if it means ending my season now,” he explained. “We have a challenging winter ahead to regain full strength, but we must also remember the incredible achievement of reclaiming the world title this year.”

Ducati’s test rider Michele Pirro stepped in for Marquez at the Australian Grand Prix, though the team has yet to confirm whether he will continue to fill in for the final rounds. Despite his absence, Marquez remains comfortably at the top of the standings, holding a 166-point lead over his brother Alex Marquez of Gresini Racing, while Bezzecchi has moved into third place.

The current MotoGP season concludes on November 16 in Valencia, with Ducati also confirming that Marquez will miss the post-season testing in Cheste. “It’s unfortunate, as his presence on track is vital for our development,” said Ducati General Manager Luigi Dall’Igna, “but his full recovery for next season is the top priority.”
