Marc Márquez Wins San Marino MotoGP to Take Championship Lead

Marc Márquez claimed a crucial victory at the San Marino Grand Prix on Sunday, finishing ahead of his younger brother Álex Márquez to move to the top of the MotoGP world championship standings.

The Ducati rider is now level with Aprilia’s Jorge Martín on 274 points, but Márquez takes the lead by virtue of having more Grand Prix victories this season. Martín finished fifth at Misano.

Márquez completed a successful weekend by securing both the sprint and main race victories. The result marked his fifth Grand Prix win of the season and strengthened his bid for an eighth MotoGP premier-class championship.

Álex Márquez, riding for Gresini Ducati, finished 0.657 seconds behind his brother, while KTM’s Pedro Acosta completed the podium. The result also made it a Spanish clean sweep of the top three.

Pole-sitter Marco Bezzecchi suffered a major setback in his home race after crashing on the opening lap. The Aprilia rider had started the weekend as one of the leading championship contenders, but his retirement leaves him 33 points behind the joint leaders.

Márquez’s victory represents a major turnaround in the title battle, with the reigning champion now taking control of the championship as the season enters its decisive stages.
