Thursday’s action at Daytona International Speedway delivered pivotal results in the lead‑up to NASCAR’s season opener, the Daytona 500, as Speedweeks continued with qualifying races that set much of the lineup for the sport’s premier event.
In the first of two Daytona 500 qualifying Duel races, Joey Logano emerged victorious under caution after a late multi‑car crash ended the Night’s race early. Logano’s control of the event earned him a transfer spot into Sunday’s Great American Race, while Casey Mears capitalised as well, grabbing one of the coveted positions in the field as a result of the late incident.
The second Duel saw Chase Elliott carve out a strong performance, holding off challengers to take the win. Elliott’s success not only secured a prime starting position but also highlighted his consistency on superspeedway competition. Behind him, drivers like Carson Hocevar and Kyle Larson finished in the top five, while Anthony Alfredo claimed the final open‑entry transfer spot for the Daytona 500.
Earlier in the week, Kyle Busch made headlines by capturing his first ever pole position for the Daytona 500, topping qualifying speeds with a blistering lap of 183.651 mph. The front row will line up alongside Chase Briscoe, who continues his strong superspeedway qualifying form by locking in second place for Sunday’s race. Busch’s pole effort marks a significant milestone in his 21st attempt at NASCAR’s most prestigious event.
With Duel winners and qualifying results now shaping much of the lineup, teams will turn their attention to final preparations, race strategy, and track conditions as Sunday’s Daytona 500 — the first points race of the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series — draws nearer.
