Lewis Hamilton Questions LEGO Grand Prix Parade as Drivers Split Over Silverstone Stunt

Posted : 03 July 2026

Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he is considering skipping Formula One's LEGO drivers' parade ahead of Sunday's British Grand Prix, joking that it is "the most dangerous part of the weekend." The Ferrari driver made the remarks during media day at Silverstone as Formula One prepares to stage the promotional event before his home race.

The pre-race spectacle will see all 22 drivers complete a lap of the Silverstone circuit in life-sized LEGO replica Formula One cars. Built using more than 28,000 LEGO bricks each, the miniature vehicles can reach speeds of around 25 km/h and are scheduled to take to the track approximately 90 minutes before the Grand Prix begins.

Hamilton recalled the similar event held in Miami last season, where he allowed Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc to drive while he watched the action unfold. The seven-time world champion laughed as he remembered several cars colliding and LEGO bricks being scattered across the circuit, suggesting that experience had done little to encourage him to take part this time.

When asked whether safety was the only reason behind his reluctance, Hamilton declined to elaborate. Reports have suggested that some drivers are unhappy because they are not paid for participating in the promotional activity, but the British driver avoided discussing that issue publicly, saying it was something he would address privately.

Despite Hamilton's comments, Ferrari later confirmed that both he and teammate Charles Leclerc are expected to participate in Sunday's parade, indicating the team is ready for another entertaining LEGO showcase.

Not every driver shared Hamilton's reservations. Aston Martin's Lance Stroll admitted he felt indifferent about the event, describing it as simply another version of the traditional drivers' parade and saying it was not something he was particularly excited about.

Reigning Formula One world champion Lando Norris took the opposite view, welcoming the return of the LEGO cars after enjoying last year's edition. The McLaren driver said he was looking forward to the experience and joked that simply making it back to the starting point without crashing would already count as a success.

The LEGO parade is part of Formula One's expanding partnership with the Danish toy manufacturer and follows the popularity of similar fan-focused events introduced during the 2025 season. This year's version has been expanded to feature a separate single-seater LEGO car for every driver, adding another light-hearted attraction to the British Grand Prix weekend.
