Leclerc Admits Ferrari Clash with Hamilton “Went Too Far” at Italian GP

Charles Leclerc has admitted that his opening-lap battle with Ferrari teammate Lewis Hamilton at the Italian Grand Prix became too intense before his race ended in a heavy crash. The pair went wheel-to-wheel at the first chicane, with Hamilton forced onto the gravel and dropping from fourth to outside the top 10.

Hamilton immediately expressed his frustration over team radio, claiming that Leclerc had pushed him off the circuit. The incident came after Hamilton had previously questioned Ferrari’s handling of its drivers following the Dutch Grand Prix, while Leclerc later acknowledged that the fight at Monza had gone beyond what was ideal between teammates.

Leclerc’s difficult afternoon became even worse on the following lap when he lost control at Parabolica and hit the barriers, bringing his race to an early end. The Ferrari driver was checked at the medical centre and said he experienced some vision problems after the crash, adding that further examinations would be carried out before next weekend’s race in Madrid.

Hamilton recovered to finish sixth, but his hopes of challenging for an eighth world championship suffered another setback. Kimi Antonelli won the race for Mercedes from 19th on the grid, while Hamilton said Ferrari would need to assess what went wrong after a disappointing home weekend.
