Lando Norris Commits to McLaren Until 2030 in “Easy” Contract Decision

Reigning Formula 1 world champion Lando Norris has committed his long-term future to McLaren after signing a new contract that will keep him with the team until at least the end of 2030. The agreement also includes an option that could extend his stay beyond that date.

Norris revealed that remaining with McLaren was a straightforward decision despite receiving interest from rival teams. The 26-year-old said he never seriously considered exploring alternative options because of his strong attachment to the people and environment at the British team.

The British driver joined McLaren's junior programme in 2017 before making his Formula 1 race debut with the team in 2019. Since then, he has become McLaren's most experienced Grand Prix driver, making 163 starts and recording 13 victories, 18 pole positions and 48 podium finishes.

Norris' loyalty has been strengthened by McLaren's transformation from a struggling midfield outfit into a championship-winning team. Under CEO Zak Brown and team principal Andrea Stella, McLaren secured consecutive Constructors' Championships in 2024 and 2025, while Norris captured his maiden Drivers' Championship last season.

The driver said the difficult periods he experienced alongside the team helped create an especially strong bond. Rather than viewing McLaren's struggles at the beginning of the 2026 season as a reason to leave, Norris believes they have reinforced his desire to continue working with the same group of people.

McLaren's early difficulties were linked to the challenges of adapting to Formula 1's new regulations. However, the team's recent improvements have restored momentum, with Norris winning consecutive races in Hungary and the Netherlands.

Norris has made it clear that he would be happy to spend his entire Formula 1 career with McLaren. His new agreement gives both sides long-term stability as they target further championships during the sport's new regulatory era.

The extension also strengthens McLaren's driver line-up for the years ahead. Oscar Piastri remains under contract through 2028, while Norris is now secured until at least 2030, providing the team with continuity at the front of its championship challenge.
