The Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bukola Olopade, has commended Lagos State for setting the pace in sports development across Nigeria.
Olopade made this remark in Lagos following the state’s successful hosting of the E1 Electric Boat Racing Championship; the first event of its kind to take place in Africa.
He lauded Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his visionary and dynamic leadership and praised the Lagos State Government for transforming the state into a global sports hub. With this achievement, Lagos now joins world-class cities such as Monaco, London, Jeddah, and Venice in hosting the prestigious E1 Boat Championship.
Olopade also highlighted other major sporting events that Lagos has successfully hosted, including the Access Bank Lagos Marathon, the Lagos International Badminton Classic, and the “Chaos in the Ring” boxing event.
The NSC Director-General further stated that Governor Sanwo-Olu understands the crucial role sports play in promoting social and economic development, adding that the commission remains committed to supporting all states in achieving similar progress.
He emphasized that the commission’s initiatives align with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of building a sustainable sports economy.
“President Tinubu has mandated the NSC to develop a sustainable sports economy capable of attracting global sporting events, and Lagos has taken a significant step in that direction,” Olopade concluded.
