Kimi Antonelli Strengthens Formula One Title Charge with Belgian Grand Prix Victory

Kimi Antonelli continued his remarkable Formula One campaign by securing victory at the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps, increasing his advantage at the top of the drivers' championship. The 19-year-old Mercedes driver delivered another composed performance to record his sixth triumph of the season, finishing ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, while Red Bull's Max Verstappen completed the podium.

Antonelli's title hopes received an additional boost after teammate and closest championship rival George Russell retired on the opening lap. Russell, who entered the weekend 25 points behind the Italian, lost positions to both Ferrari drivers before being forced into the gravel following contact with Lewis Hamilton through turns five and six, ending his race almost immediately.

Hamilton, a seven-time world champion, was handed a five-second penalty for the incident but recovered strongly to finish fourth. The result elevated him to second in the championship standings, although he remains 45 points behind Antonelli. His afternoon, however, was not without further controversy, as officials launched a post-race investigation after he made contact with one of his Ferrari mechanics while exiting a pit stop.

McLaren's Oscar Piastri crossed the line in fifth and could still gain ground should Hamilton receive an additional penalty. Red Bull's Isack Hadjar produced one of the standout drives of the race by charging from the back of the grid to sixth, narrowly staying ahead of reigning world champion Lando Norris in the second McLaren.

Rounding out the top 10 were Audi's Gabriel Bortoleto, Racing Bulls rookie Arvid Lindblad and Alpine's Franco Colapinto, as Antonelli further cemented his status as the leading contender for the 2026 Formula One world title.
