Jorge Martin, last year’s MotoGP champion, is set to make his long-awaited return at this weekend’s Valencia Grand Prix after being declared fit, Aprilia confirmed on Thursday. The 27-year-old Spaniard endured a challenging season, completing only four races due to injuries sustained during pre-season testing and crashes in Qatar and Japan.
Martin suffered a collapsed lung and bruised ribs in Qatar, followed by a crash in Japan that required collarbone surgery and sidelined him for several rounds. While Martin watched from the sidelines, Ducati’s Marc Marquez secured the championship title.
With Martin absent for much of the season, Aprilia focused on his teammate Marco Bezzecchi, who is now close to securing third place in the championship behind the Marquez brothers and Gresini Racing’s Alex.
“I can’t wait to be back with the team. I’m really happy with the way the team is working, and I want to congratulate Aprilia and Marco on the results they’ve achieved,” Martin said earlier this week. “My goal now is to start preparing in the best possible way for next season. Results don’t make sense at this point—the important thing is to put in laps, gather information, and grow with the team so we’re ready for 2026.”
Martin’s return concludes a turbulent year, which also included a contract dispute with Aprilia after he initially announced plans to leave ahead of the 2026 season, before ultimately recommitting to the Italian squad.
Other riders declared fit for the Valencia finale include KTM Tech3’s Maverick Vinales and Trackhouse Racing’s Raul Fernandez, both returning from injuries.
