Aston Martin has officially announced that American driver Jak Crawford will take on the role of third driver for the team in the 2026 Formula 1 season.
Crawford, who joined Aston Martin’s Driver Development Program in 2024 after previously being part of the Red Bull junior academy, is currently making waves in Formula 2, sitting second in the championship standings, just 19 points behind leader Leonardo Fornaroli with two races left in the season.
The 20-year-old from North Carolina recently made his Formula 1 weekend debut during FP1 in Mexico City, marking a significant step in his racing career.
Crawford will serve as reserve driver behind Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, succeeding Felipe Drugovich, who previously held the position.
Aston Martin team principal Andy Cowell praised Crawford’s growth and contribution to the team over the past two years.
With his promotion, Crawford cements his place as one of America’s most promising young drivers, poised to gain more F1 experience as Aston Martin continues to develop its long-term competitive ambitions.
