Jack Doohan will step in for Esteban Ocon at Alpine for the final race of the 2024 Formula 1 season in Abu Dhabi. Doohan, who is already confirmed to race for Alpine alongside Pierre Gasly in 2025, will gain valuable experience ahead of next season. This move comes as part of a broader arrangement that allows Ocon to join his new team, Haas, for the post-season test in Abu Dhabi on December 10.
Ocon, who had been contracted with Alpine until the end of the year, will leave a race early, benefiting both himself and the team. The decision provides Doohan with the opportunity to experience a full Grand Prix weekend before his home race in Melbourne in March. Meanwhile, Ocon will have a chance to familiarize himself with Haas' team and car ahead of his preparations for the 2025 season.
The early release of Ocon is a result of deteriorating relations between the driver and Alpine, particularly following an incident in the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix where Ocon collided with teammate Pierre Gasly. Alpine has decided not to continue with Ocon, acknowledging his contributions to the team’s history, including securing the team’s first-ever Formula 1 victory in 2021 at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Ocon's tenure at Alpine included three podium finishes, with a second-place finish in Brazil and a third in Monaco this year. Despite his strong performances, the team opted to part ways with the French driver, wishing him the best for his future at Haas.
