Jack Doohan acknowledges that his Formula One seat is highly sought after by Alpine’s four reserve drivers, including Franco Colapinto, as he prepares for the Australian Grand Prix. The Australian driver, who made his F1 race debut in Abu Dhabi last year, faces intense scrutiny over his future amid speculation fueled by Colapinto’s strong backing.
Doohan, however, insists that he is not only competing against the Argentine but also against fellow reserves Paul Aron, Ryo Hirakawa, and Kush Maini, all of whom are eager for an opportunity in the top tier of motorsport.
Despite questions surrounding his place on the grid, Doohan remains focused on making the most of every race, emphasizing his determination to deliver strong performances. Speaking ahead of the race weekend, he stressed that every outing in the car is crucial, regardless of external pressures.
He acknowledged the competitive nature of Formula One, noting that he, too, had once been in a reserve role looking for a full-time seat. While speculation persists over Alpine’s long-term plans, he remains committed to proving his worth on the track.
Meanwhile, McLaren’s Oscar Piastri has come to Doohan’s defense, stating that his compatriot has earned his F1 opportunity through his performances in junior categories. Piastri highlighted the challenges of transitioning back into a race seat after a period on the sidelines, particularly in a demanding Formula One car.
He emphasized that Doohan deserves time to settle in and adapt to the rigors of the sport, recognizing the importance of patience and experience in developing as a top-level driver.
