Hamilton, Leclerc Thrill Ferrari Fans in Milan Ahead of F1 Season Opener

Posted : 07 March 2025

Lewis Hamilton experienced the passion of Ferrari fans firsthand as he and teammate Charles Leclerc thrilled a crowd of 35,000 in Milan’s Piazza Castello on Thursday. The event, hosted by Ferrari sponsor Unicredit, saw the seven-time world champion perform tyre-smoking burnouts while filling the city streets with the roar of an SF21.

Leclerc, meanwhile, drove the SF90, the car that secured his first Formula One victory for Ferrari in 2019. Both drivers ran simultaneously, crisscrossing paths to the delight of the "tifosi" in attendance.

Hamilton, who is set to join Ferrari after his illustrious career with Mercedes, acknowledged the overwhelming support from fans. He noted how he had witnessed the passion of Ferrari supporters for past drivers like Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso, and current teammates Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.

The 40-year-old Briton expressed his desire to connect more deeply with the fans, even mentioning his goal of improving his Italian. With Ferrari having last won a constructors’ championship in 2008, Hamilton understands the weight of expectations and the immense significance of a potential title for the team and its followers.

As he prepares for his debut season with Ferrari, Hamilton expressed confidence in the team’s meticulous preparations and stated that he feels relaxed heading into the Australian Grand Prix. Leclerc, fresh off victories in Monaco and Monza last season, emphasized how the unwavering support of the tifosi serves as a powerful motivator.

He acknowledged the responsibility that comes with representing Ferrari but described the passion from fans as a source of positive energy. The highly anticipated Formula One season is set to commence in Melbourne on March 16.
