Hamilton Confident Ferrari Can End Title Drought After First Drive in SF-25

Posted : 20 February 2025

Lewis Hamilton believes Ferrari has what it takes to win the Formula One championship this season after his first drive in the team's SF-25 car. The seven-time world champion took to the Fiorano circuit in northern Italy, thrilling fans as he tested the car and acknowledged their support.

Ferrari has endured a lengthy title drought, with their last constructors' championship in 2008 and Kimi Räikkönen's 2007 triumph being their most recent drivers' title. When asked if Ferrari was ready to reclaim the top spot, Hamilton confidently responded, "yes," citing his experience with past championship-winning teams.

Hamilton expressed admiration for Ferrari's approach, emphasizing the team's unwavering dedication to improvement. He described their collective mindset as calm yet determined, noting that every aspect of their operations is being refined to optimize performance.

Despite turning 40, Hamilton remains energized by his new challenge, seeking to bridge the gap with Red Bull after several seasons of struggle. Since his controversial loss to Max Verstappen in 2021, Hamilton has not come close to another title, finishing outside the top three in the past two seasons. However, his move to Ferrari has reignited his passion, offering a fresh opportunity to reclaim his dominance.

The British driver acknowledged his excitement in a Ferrari-released video, stating that he never expected to feel such enthusiasm this late in his career. Rather than focusing on securing a record-breaking eighth world title, Hamilton is determined to bring Ferrari its first championship in over a decade. He described the transition as a "new wave of life and energy," emphasizing his commitment to putting in extra effort to help the team succeed. Winning with Ferrari, he said, would be a completely new milestone, marking a fresh chapter rather than an extension of his previous achievements.

Despite his legendary status, Hamilton understands the challenges ahead as he adapts to a new environment. He admitted that significant work lies ahead but praised Ferrari for making him feel welcome. His immediate focus is on preparing for the first race, ensuring he is ready to perform at his best. With winter testing in Bahrain on the horizon, Hamilton's real test will begin before the season kicks off in Melbourne next month.
