Franco Colapinto Shines Despite Alpine Struggles, Wins Fans’ Hearts in Sao Paulo

Posted : 09 November 2025

Franco Colapinto may be struggling with Alpine at the bottom of the Formula One championship, but his popularity is soaring. The 22-year-old Argentine crashed out early in Saturday's sprint race and qualified 18th out of 19, yet he continues to capture attention both on and off the track. With his seat confirmed for next season alongside Pierre Gasly, fans are confident his charisma and racing flair will keep him in the spotlight.

Argentina hasn’t hosted an F1 race since 1998, making Sao Paulo the closest grand prix to home, where Spanish has become a common language among the grandstands.

Colapinto debuted with Williams late last year, becoming the first Argentine on the grid since 2001, following in the footsteps of legends like Juan Manuel Fangio and Carlos Reutemann. He earned a seat at Alpine after the team replaced Jack Doohan mid-season, and fans have flocked to see him race in Interlagos. Colapinto  expressed gratitude to supporters who traveled from across Latin America.

Despite Alpine’s struggles, Colapinto’s performances have been recognized by industry insiders. Fans also see Colapinto as a symbol of pride and connection for Argentina. The young driver’s attitude and flair on track have become a source of joy for supporters, independent of race results.

Colapinto emphasized the unity between Brazilian and Argentine fans in motorsport. His friendship with Brazilian driver Gabriel Bortoleto underscores the camaraderie off the track, showing that Colapinto’s appeal extends far beyond race results.
