Franco Colapinto has credited Alpine executive Flavio Briatore with helping the team move forward after his crash at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, which eliminated both Lando Norris and teammate Pierre Gasly.
The incident occurred on lap 35 in Baku shortly after a safety-car restart. Colapinto lost control and collided with Norris and Gasly, ending the races of all three drivers and leaving Alpine without the points it had been targeting.
Colapinto accepted responsibility for the crash and apologised, while Norris initially expressed his frustration by suggesting that the Argentine should face a ban. The McLaren driver later apologised for those comments.
Briatore was also angered by the incident but ultimately decided to keep Colapinto in the Alpine seat for this weekend's race at Sepang in Malaysia. Colapinto said the team held several discussions after returning to its base in Britain to address what happened.
The Argentine praised Briatore's leadership during the difficult period, saying the Alpine boss knows how to handle tense situations and use them to strengthen the team.
Colapinto added that everyone at Alpine was frustrated by the consequences of the crash, but the focus quickly shifted towards understanding the mistake and moving forward.
He also said his relationship with Norris has been repaired following the confrontation in Baku. Colapinto suggested that Norris' initial reaction was influenced by the intensity of the moment.
The 23-year-old also confirmed that there are no lingering problems with Gasly. He described his relationship with his Alpine teammate as positive and said the situation between them is now settled.
Colapinto will therefore continue alongside Gasly as Alpine returns to action at Sepang, where Formula One is staging a race in Malaysia for the first time since 2017.
