Francesco Bagnaia Dominates Malaysian MotoGP Sprint

Posted : 25 October 2025
Francesco Bagnaia stormed to victory in the Malaysian MotoGP sprint, with Alex Marquez finishing second in the world championship standings.

Italy’s Francesco Bagnaia delivered a commanding performance to win the Malaysian MotoGP sprint race on Saturday, while Spain’s Alex Marquez finished second to secure the runner-up position in the world championship standings behind his brother, Marc Marquez.

Riding for Ducati, Bagnaia started from pole position and maintained his lead throughout the race, completing the sprint at the Sepang International Circuit in 19 minutes, 53.725 seconds. Marquez crossed the line 2.259 seconds behind, completing a historic family one-two finish in the overall standings.

Marc Marquez, who had already clinched the 2025 world title, was absent from the race after suffering a collarbone injury during the Indonesian Grand Prix earlier this month, ruling him out for the remainder of the season.

Spanish rider Fermin Aldeguer claimed third place, followed by Pedro Acosta in fourth and Franco Morbidelli in fifth to round out the top five finishers.

For Bagnaia, the win marked a perfect display of control and pace. The two-time world champion, who secured pole for the third consecutive year at Sepang, took the lead early and never looked back. Marquez briefly dropped to third during the race but fought back to reclaim second, while Bagnaia remained untouchable at the front.

The victory was especially sweet for Bagnaia, coming a year after heartbreak in the 2024 Malaysian sprint when he crashed out despite setting a lap record in qualifying. His wire-to-wire win reaffirmed his status as one of MotoGP’s elite riders and provided Ducati with another dominant moment in the season.
