Formula One has released its 2026 calendar, confirming 24 races across five continents and marking a significant reshuffle with the addition of Madrid’s new street circuit. The Spanish capital will host its inaugural F1 race on September 13, replacing Imola which has been dropped from the schedule.
Meanwhile, Barcelona remains on the calendar with a race on June 14, though it is no longer branded the Spanish Grand Prix as the sport embraces a dual-Spain format. These changes aim to add fresh appeal to the series while maintaining traditional European venues.
The season will begin earlier than usual, with Melbourne hosting the opener on March 8, followed by Shanghai on March 15 and Japan on March 29. Monaco’s prestigious event has moved to June 7, swapping dates with the Canadian Grand Prix, now slated for May 24.
This revised scheduling places Montreal in conflict with the Indianapolis 500 but avoids a clash with the 24 Hours of Le Mans. F1 has also adjusted the calendar to enhance regional sequencing, aiming to cut down on travel emissions and improve logistical efficiency.
The season will include two triple-header stretches and six back-to-back race weekends. One of the triple-headers will feature Austin, Mexico City, and São Paulo, while the other runs from Las Vegas through Qatar to the finale in Abu Dhabi on December 6.
Notably, Zandvoort in the Netherlands, which will exit the schedule after 2026, will host a sprint weekend on August 23. However, the FIA has yet to reveal the full list of sprint venues for 2026.
As the championship enters a new engine era, major manufacturers like Audi, Cadillac, and Ford are preparing to join or strengthen their presence on the grid. Cadillac’s entry as an 11th team signals growth, while Audi's takeover of Sauber and Ford’s partnership with Red Bull add further excitement.
The sport will also move to 100% sustainable fuel, aligning with its broader environmental goals. F1 Chief Executive Stefano Domenicali expressed optimism about the evolving calendar and the series’ commitment to innovation and sustainability.
