Formula 1 urges swift resolution to Red Bull controversy involving team principal Christian Horner

Posted : 19 February 2024

Formula 1 has urged Red Bull to swiftly address the controversy surrounding team principal Christian Horner, who faces allegations of inappropriate behavior towards a female colleague. The sport's governing body released a statement expressing the hope that the matter would be clarified soon after a fair and thorough process.

Red Bull initiated an independent investigation into the internal allegations, which Formula 1 acknowledged in its statement. The ongoing investigation involves an external specialist barrister and aims to be completed as soon as possible.

The allegations against Horner emerged two weeks ago, prompting Red Bull to release a statement emphasizing the seriousness of the matter. Horner, who has led the team since 2005, denies the allegations and has undergone an interview with a lawyer as part of the process.

The lawyer is expected to compile a report for submission to Red Bull's board, but details about the investigation's scope and the lawyer's identity remain undisclosed. Ford, set to be Red Bull's engine partner in F1 from 2026, issued a statement expressing the expectation of high standards of behavior and integrity from their partners, emphasizing the need for Red Bull to take the situation seriously.

F1's governing body, the FIA, has decided not to comment while the investigation is ongoing. Red Bull's pre-season testing in Bahrain is scheduled for February 21-23, and despite the controversy, Horner intends to be present in the paddock during that time.

The situation remains under scrutiny from both the motorsport community and the public, highlighting the broader significance of addressing issues related to workplace conduct within the high-profile world of Formula 1.
