On May 13, 1950, at 15:00, the first Formula 1 World Championship race officially began at Silverstone, UK, marking the start of an era that has since become one of the most thrilling and innovative global sporting phenomena.

This inaugural race was part of a seven-race series, and its impact has spanned 75 years, bringing a legacy of excitement, drama, and technological advancement to the world of motorsport.

To commemorate this milestone, Formula 1 has released restored and colorized footage of the race, giving fans an immersive look at a pivotal moment in sports history.

The colorized footage features the legendary victory of Italy's Giuseppe “Nino” Farina, who triumphed in an Alfa Romeo, becoming the first Formula 1 World Drivers' Champion.

The transformation of this historic footage has been achieved through the meticulous work of a specialized team at Formula 1, using advanced AI software, reference imagery, and manual painting techniques.

This detailed process has vividly restored the original colors of the scene, ensuring accuracy while breathing new life into the race and surrounding environment.

The colorized footage not only showcases Farina's victory but also provides a fresh perspective on the birth of the Formula 1 championship, enhancing the historical significance of the event.

Through the use of AI and manual techniques, specific elements such as the cars, grass, sky, and even the faces of the drivers have been painstakingly painted, offering fans an unprecedented view of the first Formula 1 race. This release serves as a testament to the sport's rich history and a nod to its continuous evolution.

To mark the 75th anniversary, Formula 1 is hosting a celebration that includes a 24-hour YouTube stream featuring seven full classic races, highlights from different decades, and reflections from current drivers and team principals on their earliest memories of the sport.

Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, expressed pride in the sport’s legacy and acknowledged the contributions of drivers, engineers, and fans who have made Formula 1 the global spectacle it is today.
