Ferrari Secures Key Personnel from Mercedes Amidst Lewis Hamilton's Transition

Posted : 14 May 2024

Ferrari made significant announcements on Monday, revealing two new additions to their Formula One team sourced from their rival, Mercedes. Jerome d'Ambrosio, a former racer with experience at Marussia and Lotus, joins as deputy team principal.

Meanwhile, Loic Serra, previously with Mercedes, assumes the role of head of chassis performance engineering at Maranello. Both transitions are set to commence on 1st October, coinciding with the impending arrival of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes at the end of the season.

D'Ambrosio, hailing from Belgium, brings a wealth of expertise not only from his racing background but also from his stint as principal at the Venturi Formula E team and his involvement in driver development at Mercedes. He will work closely with Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur and additionally oversee operations at the Ferrari driver academy. His multi-faceted role extends to filling in for Toto Wolff, the team boss at Mercedes, during his absence.

Serra, a Frenchman, arrives at Ferrari with a robust background from Mercedes, where he contributed to the team's unprecedented success over the past decade. Tasked with reporting to technical director Enrico Cardile, Serra's responsibilities will encompass aerodynamic development and optimizing vehicle performance. His tenure coincides with Mercedes' era of dominance in Formula One, which saw them clinch eight consecutive constructors' championships from 2014 to 2021.
