Fernando Alonso dismisses speculation on Max Verstappen leaving Red Bull

Posted : 05 April 2024

Fernando Alonso, the two-time champion from Aston Martin, dispelled speculation about Max Verstappen's departure from Red Bull in the upcoming season, suggesting it would not be the unexpected twist in this year's driver market. Verstappen, a triple world champion, has a contract with Red Bull until 2028, although recent tensions between his father Jos and team principal Christian Horner have stirred uncertainty about his future.

Amidst the speculation surrounding Verstappen's potential departure, Alonso addressed the issue during a press briefing at Suzuka Circuit ahead of the Japan Grand Prix. Alonso expressed skepticism about the likelihood of Verstappen leaving Red Bull, asserting that such a scenario would have minimal impact on the ongoing battle for seats among drivers, including himself, who are out of contract at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has hinted at considering Verstappen as a potential replacement for Lewis Hamilton, who is set to join Ferrari at the end of the season. However, Verstappen reaffirmed his commitment to Red Bull during a press conference, stating his contentment with the team and dismissing speculations about his future moves.
