Fermin Aldeguer Signs Two-Year Deal to Join Valentino Rossi’s VR46 Team

Spanish rider Fermin Aldeguer will leave Gresini Racing at the end of the 2026 MotoGP season and join Valentino Rossi’s VR46 team after agreeing to a two-year contract covering the 2027 and 2028 seasons. The move has been officially confirmed, with Aldeguer set to receive full Ducati factory backing.

The 21-year-old made an impressive MotoGP debut in 2025, winning in Indonesia and adding podium finishes in France and Austria. His second season, however, has been disrupted by injury. A fractured left femur kept him out of pre-season testing, while a second-place finish in Catalunya remains his only podium of 2026. He has also missed the last three Grands Prix after suffering another injury.

Aldeguer’s move represents a significant opportunity because he will ride a factory-specification Ducati Desmosedici with VR46. That puts him on machinery comparable to Ducati’s works riders Marc Marquez and Pedro Acosta as the championship prepares for the new 850cc technical era in 2027.

Ducati Corse general manager Gigi Dall’Igna praised Aldeguer’s development, highlighting his talent, ability to learn quickly and determination. Ducati believes the young Spaniard still has considerable room for improvement and has therefore committed to supporting his continued progression.

VR46’s second rider for 2027 has not yet been formally confirmed, although World Superbike star Nicolò Bulega is widely expected to take the seat. The Italian has been dominating the Superbike championship and is being lined up for a return to MotoGP.

Meanwhile, Luca Marini, Valentino Rossi’s half-brother and a former VR46 rider, is set to move from Honda to KTM’s Tech3 satellite team for 2027. Australian Moto2 contender Senna Agius is reportedly the leading candidate to partner Marini, although that pairing also awaits official confirmation.
