Esteban Ocon expressed disappointment over how his time at Alpine is coming to an end, with his departure occurring just ahead of the Abu Dhabi season finale. The French driver, who had planned to race one final time for Alpine, will instead be replaced by Australian reserve driver Jack Doohan for the Yas Marina Grand Prix this weekend.
Ocon, who is set to join Haas next season, will not have the opportunity to bid a proper farewell to the team. Alpine, however, framed his departure as a way to allow Ocon to test for the US-owned team next week. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Ocon apologized to the hard-working men and women at Alpine's Enstone and Viry bases, acknowledging the challenges of the past year.
The French driver had originally planned to race in Abu Dhabi and then personally say goodbye to his colleagues next week. Unfortunately, circumstances have led to a different outcome, though Ocon remains optimistic about the future, stating that he will likely cross paths with many of them again soon in the tight-knit F1 community.
As Alpine continues its push for sixth place in the constructors' championship, holding a five-point lead over Haas, Ocon offered his best wishes to his friend Jack Doohan, who is stepping up to make his race debut in Abu Dhabi.
