Cadillac is set to make its Formula 1 debut in 2026, with Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas confirmed as the team’s drivers, according to ESPN and Motorsport.com. A formal announcement is expected later this week.
The new F1 outfit will become the 11th team on the grid and only the second American-centered team in the sport’s history. General Motors will serve as the constructor, with the team competing under the Cadillac brand.
Despite being an American-backed project, the team opted for experienced international talent rather than signing a U.S. driver. Sergio Perez, 35, who was released by Red Bull Racing at the conclusion of the 2024 season, brings extensive experience. Perez finished second in the 2023 championship and third in 2022, securing six Grand Prix victories since his F1 debut in 2011.
Valtteri Bottas, also 35, will join as the second driver. The Finnish racer has competed for four teams since entering F1 in 2013-14, most recently Sauber, and served as a reserve driver for Mercedes and a test driver for McLaren this year. Bottas has previously finished second in the drivers’ standings in 2019 and 2020, and third in 2017 and 2021 during his time with Mercedes.
