Bezzecchi Takes Pole for Portuguese Grand Prix as Marquez Crash Ends Front-Row Hopes

Posted : 08 November 2025

Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi stormed to pole position for the Portuguese Grand Prix on Saturday after producing a blistering late lap at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve, while Alex Marquez’s crash ended his hopes of starting from the front row.

Bezzecchi clocked 1:37.556, edging KTM’s Pedro Acosta into second place and Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo into third, securing his first pole of the season.

Marquez, who had dominated Friday’s practice, once again looked strong early in the session before a crash in the closing stages consigned him to fifth place and a second-row start. His mishap allowed Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia to move up to fourth on the grid.

Elsewhere, Trackhouse Racing’s Raul Fernandez withdrew from the Grand Prix following a heavy fall in Friday’s practice. The Spanish rider suffered a left shoulder injury and will aim to recover in time for the final round in Valencia next week.

Meanwhile, Ducati’s Marc Marquez, who sealed his seventh MotoGP title in Japan earlier this season, has opted to sit out the remainder of the campaign due to injuries sustained in Indonesia. Despite his absence, he will finish the season as MotoGP’s best qualifier and is set to receive a brand-new BMW car in recognition of his performance.
