Audi Restructures F1 Management Ahead of 2026 Debut

Posted : 05 May 2025

Audi has made a second restructuring of its Formula 1 team in less than a year ahead of its official grid entry in 2026. Mattia Binotto, who was previously Audi's chief operating and technical officer, has now taken on the role of head of the Audi F1 project, while CEO Adam Baker has departed the company. Audi stated that the reorganization has helped to clarify and streamline the management structure, particularly regarding the engine and chassis departments.

The changes follow Binotto's joining Audi in July 2024 as part of a broader reorganization that also saw the removal of former F1 CEO Andreas Seidl. Seidl, who was recruited from McLaren at the end of 2022, was let go as the company adjusted its strategy.

Audi explained that with Binotto in charge, the CEO role had become unnecessary and obsolete, prompting the decision to remove it. Audi’s F1 operations are split across two locations in Germany and Switzerland, with the power unit base in Neuburg an der Donau and the car design base in Hinwil.

Under the new structure, Binotto will oversee both chassis and engine design and manufacturing, while team principal Jonathan Wheatley, who joined from Red Bull in 2025, will manage the team during races. Audi has also appointed Christian Foyer as its new chief operating officer to take over Baker’s responsibilities on the engine side.

As Audi prepares to enter F1 in 2026 with new engine regulations, the company is also exploring a base in England to further benefit from the region’s motorsport expertise.
