Italian Formula One prospect Kimi Antonelli believes Ferrari are the team to beat heading into the Monaco Grand Prix, despite Mercedes’ dominant start to the season.
Antonelli, who recently secured his fourth consecutive victory with Mercedes at the Canadian Grand Prix, extended his lead in the championship standings but suggested the unique demands of Monaco could shift the competitive balance. He pointed to Ferrari’s strong low-speed performance and aerodynamic setup as key advantages on the tight street circuit.
Mercedes have enjoyed a perfect run so far this season, winning all five Grands Prix and multiple sprint races. However, Ferrari have shown signs of improvement, with Lewis Hamilton finishing second in Montreal and Charles Leclerc also consistently reaching the podium.
Monaco presents a different challenge compared to high-speed tracks like Montreal, as its narrow layout places greater emphasis on cornering ability and qualifying performance rather than engine power and straight-line speed.
Hamilton, who has previously won three times in Monaco, also expressed optimism about Ferrari’s chances, noting that their car could be highly competitive in low-speed conditions if their power deficit is less influential.
Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur echoed a cautious optimism, stressing that Monaco is a unique challenge compared to other circuits and highlighting the team’s strong start-line performance under the new regulations.
As Formula One heads to Monte Carlo, anticipation is building for a potentially unpredictable race where Ferrari hope to end their winless streak and Mercedes aim to maintain their early-season dominance.
