Italian teenage sensation Kimi Antonelli is chasing a remarkable fourth consecutive Formula 1 victory as the championship heads to the Canadian Grand Prix. The 19-year-old leads Mercedes teammate George Russell by 20 points after four rounds, with both drivers benefiting from a strong start to the season and a major upgrade package from the team.
Russell, who was considered one of the pre-season favourites, is aiming to reassert his status within the team after a mixed run of results. Antonelli, meanwhile, continues to build momentum after emerging as a surprise title contender and will be tested on a circuit where Russell has historically performed strongly, including a win and pole position last season.
Despite his rapid rise, Antonelli expects a fierce response from his more experienced teammate, who has consistently excelled in Montreal. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has urged calm, stressing that the season is still in its early stages and results must be judged over the long term.
Behind the Mercedes duo, strong competition is expected from Ferrari, McLaren, and Red Bull Racing, with reigning champion Max Verstappen also aiming to close the gap after a short break from racing.
At McLaren, drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri remain key contenders, while Ferrari’s line-up of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc also promises strong competition.
Elsewhere, home hopes rest solely on Lance Stroll, as Aston Martin continue to struggle for pace. Veteran driver Fernando Alonso has also hinted that his future in Formula 1 could be nearing its conclusion.
