Anthony Hamilton, father of seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton, is poised to take on an official role with the sport’s governing body, the FIA. His involvement follows a period of advising FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem on initiatives related to young driver development.
According to reports confirmed at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, Hamilton will play a part in launching the FIA's Young Driver Development Pathway, a program focused on grassroots talent and safeguarding young drivers from exploitative practices by agents and managers.
The new initiative will be formally introduced during the FIA’s conference in Macau this June. Its implementation is seen as a strategic move ahead of Ben Sulayem’s expected bid for a second term as FIA president this December.
Former rally driver Carlos Sainz Sr., whose son races for Williams, is rumored to be a possible challenger in the upcoming election. Under FIA rules, presidential candidates must present a list of vice-presidents representing each of the sport’s global regions, including two from Europe.
Anthony Hamilton's collaboration with Ben Sulayem suggests he is unlikely to back any rival candidate in the election. Though Lewis Hamilton has publicly had a strained relationship with the FIA president, his father has long stepped away from his management responsibilities. Anthony’s role in shaping future talent aligns with broader efforts to improve transparency and protection within motorsport's development pipeline.
