Jaguar TCS Racing driver António Félix da Costa has firmly stated that Max Verstappen deserves absolute respect from the motorsport community. The four-time Formula 1 world champion is preparing for his highly anticipated debut at the iconic Nürburgring 24 Hours this weekend. Verstappen is entering the demanding endurance race alongside his ongoing commitments with Red Bull Racing.
The Dutch driver has generated massive attention for the GT racing category through this entry. He will compete for Mercedes-AMG Team Verstappen Racing inside a specialized GT3 car. Verstappen has completed extensive preparation to give his squad the highest possible chance of securing a victory. His lineup includes elite GT racing drivers Lucas Auer, Jules Gounon, and Dani Juncadella.
Da Costa is a close personal friend of Verstappen and understands the immense scale of this task. The Portuguese driver previously tackled the difficult Nordschleife circuit during his own appearance in 2027. He currently competes in the FIA World Endurance Championship for the Alpine Endurance Team. Da Costa expressed great joy at seeing a top tier single-seater driver cross over into sports car racing.
He noted that the move revives an old tradition where F1 drivers frequently tested themselves in multiple categories. This trend became very rare in the modern era due to strict contracts and congested calendars. Da Costa recalled how Nico Hülkenberg previously went to Le Mans and won on his initial attempt. He believes Verstappen is following a similar path by pursuing what genuinely makes him happy.
The Nürburgring 24 Hours remains famous for its highly volatile weather conditions and constant heavy traffic. Verstappen has already displayed competitive speed by qualifying the Mercedes car safely into the top positions. Da Costa concluded that while outright pace is essential, drivers remain highly vulnerable to variables beyond their control.
