Alex Palou seals fourth straight IndyCar title with historic Milwaukee finish

Alex Palou secured his fifth IndyCar Series championship and fourth consecutive title after finishing 10th in the rain-delayed second race at the Milwaukee Mile.

The 29-year-old Spaniard entered the Milwaukee weekend with a commanding advantage in the standings and strengthened his position with a fifth-place finish in Sunday’s scheduled race. He then safely completed the postponed race, which had been halted by rain after 90 laps on Saturday, to make his championship lead unassailable with one round remaining.

Palou’s latest triumph places him alongside Sébastien Bourdais as only the second driver in IndyCar history to win four championships in succession. His five titles also move him into third place on the all-time list, behind seven-time champion A.J. Foyt and six-time winner Scott Dixon.

The Chip Ganassi Racing driver has enjoyed another outstanding season, recording six victories, eight pole positions, seven podium finishes and 12 top-five results across 17 races. His consistency has helped him establish himself among the leading figures in American open-wheel racing.

Palou admitted that the achievement was difficult to fully put into words after a demanding day that required drivers to complete two races. Despite struggling for pace, he remained focused on bringing the car home safely and securing another championship for Chip Ganassi Racing.

Pato O’Ward was the star of the Milwaukee weekend, winning both races on Sunday after the weather disruption. He became the first IndyCar driver since Rick Mears in 1981 to win two races on the same day.

Palou will now turn his attention to the season finale at Laguna Seca in California, where he will have the opportunity to add another victory to an already historic campaign.
