West Ham v AZ Alkmaar: The Dutch Moneyball squad aims to win the Europa Conference

The man himself, Mr. Moneyball, is going to stand in the way of West Ham's bid to reach its first European final in 47 years.
 
On Thursday, the first leg of their Europa Conference League semifinal between AZ Alkmaar and the Hammers will be played. Additionally, the Dutch team is "one of the best untold sports stories," according to Billy Beane.
 
Beane, who served as the real-life model for Brad Pitt's role in the film Moneyball, should be aware. He has been connected to AZ for about ten years.
 
His techniques have subsequently been adopted by other clubs in both baseball and football. He was a pioneer in the use of statistical data to turn around the fortunes of Major League Baseball team Oakland Athletics.
