Scotland defender Ryan Porteous has been handed a two-game ban by UEFA for a "serious rough play" offense following his studs-up tackle on Ilkay Gundogan during Scotland's 5-1 defeat to Germany in the Euro 2024 opening match.
Porteous received a red card just before halftime for his two-footed challenge on Gundogan inside the penalty box, with Kai Havertz successfully converting the ensuing penalty, extending Germany's lead to 3-0.
As a result of the ban, Porteous will miss Scotland's upcoming matches against Switzerland on Wednesday and Hungary on Sunday. With aspirations to advance beyond the group stage in a major tournament for the first time, Scotland will have to cope without one of their key defenders for the crucial matches ahead.
