Tottenham target applies for Nigerian passport

Posted : 06 July 2023
Fulham's talented central defender, Tosin Adarabioyo, has recently taken steps to obtain a Nigerian passport, amidst strong interest from prominent clubs in the French and Italian top flights.

While Adarabioyo was previously in possession of a British passport due to being born in Manchester, it is important to note that his decision to apply for a Nigerian passport does not indicate a switch in his international allegiance from England to Nigeria.

Adarabioyo's pursuit of a Nigerian passport is unrelated to any change in his association with the Super Eagles.

Instead, the 25-year-old is fully committed to establishing himself at a top European club before making a final decision regarding his international future.

One club that has expressed a keen interest in Adarabioyo's services is Tottenham Hotspur, who view him as a potential reinforcement in their central defense.

However, time is of the essence for Tottenham, as Monaco is actively pushing to secure his signature, and Inter Milan has also shown concrete interest in the player.

Additionally, French champions Paris Saint-Germain have been considering a move for Adarabioyo, although no firm offers have materialized at this stage.

The primary reason behind Adarabioyo's application for a Nigerian passport is his potential eligibility as an EU player, which would be advantageous if he were to join a French Ligue 1 club or make a move to the Italian Serie A.

This eligibility is due to the provisions of the Cotonou Agreement and the Kolpak Ruling, which could facilitate his European transfer.

As the transfer window progresses, it remains to be seen which club will ultimately secure Adarabioyo's services.

His decision to obtain a Nigerian passport signifies his desire to explore the exciting possibilities that European football presents while keeping his international options open.
