The failure of Frank Lampard's Chelsea puts his long-term managing reputation at risk

The season for Chelsea is concluded. Any uncertainty was eliminated on Wednesday night when Brentford put on a strong away performance to earn back-to-back victories at Stamford Bridge.
Lampard suffered his sixth straight setback after rejoining the team as acting manager. He had watched his Chelsea team play brilliantly against Real Madrid earlier this month, but they eventually left regretting the same old flaws.
The words of his old teammate may have crossed Lampard's mind when he glanced up at the The Shed End on Wednesday night and saw his banner, "In Frank We Trust - Then. Now. Forever."
There are now concerns over whether Lampard made the right decision in seizing this chance to return to management and whether his standing as a manager inside the sport is deteriorating more with each setback.
"I don't know, I'm not concerned with what people on the outside think because I don't think they ever understand the conditions of what you're working with," Lampard responded.
"Two of those games were against Real Madrid. Clearly I'm here for a reason, because the results weren't what they want. I didn't have a bar of what the challenges are going to be but I understood there would be challenges behind the scenes because of where we are.
