Stars in Saudi despise every moment, eager to return soon

Posted : 12 October 2023
Saudi Arabia has been making significant moves in the past year to establish a prominent position in global football. Following the acquisition of Newcastle, a turbulent summer saw numerous European football superstars opt to play in the somewhat overlooked Middle East league, attracting substantial and disproportionate financial rewards. The trend began with Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Al Ittihad after the World Cup, followed by Karim Benzema, Neymar, and several other senior players making a shift to Saudi Arabia.

Recent reports from The Sun suggest that many of these players are now expressing regret over their move to Saudi Arabia. "Saudi Arabia is on the verge of securing the hosting rights for the 2034 World Cup, indicating another winter World Cup. However, the anticipated football frenzy in the country isn't reflected in the numbers," as stated by The Sun.

"It has come to our understanding that numerous stars who relocated to Saudi Arabia are expressing complete remorse over their decision, with some detesting every moment spent there. The major challenge they face is being bound by their contracts until their conclusion, typically lasting for two years.

"Moreover, despite Saudi Arabia's population of 37 million, the stadiums remain relatively empty. For instance, Jordan Henderson's Al Ittifaq, under the coaching of Steven Gerrard, recently played a match with only 9,000 spectators, and previously with 5,000 and once with 987 spectators... Out of the league's 11 teams, 11 attract fewer than 18.5 spectators per game, with two teams having 000.2 or even less."
