A US Senate hearing has been scheduled to discuss the merger between the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), and prominent figures from the world of golf have been invited to testify.
PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan, PIF governor Yasir al-Rumayyan, and LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman are among those asked to attend the hearing on July 11th.
US Senator Richard Blumenthal stated that the hearing aims to uncover the facts regarding the merger and examine the implications of the Saudi takeover on the future of the PGA Tour and US national interests.
The merger between the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, along with the involvement of PIF, has generated controversy and led to calls for Monahan's resignation. However, some critics, including Rory McIlroy, believe that the merger will ultimately benefit the sport of golf.
Blumenthal, who chairs the Senate's Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, emphasized the importance of revealing the structure and governance of the newly formed entity to the American public.
