Santos Football Club has launched an internal investigation following an alleged training ground incident involving Neymar and Robinho Junior. The club confirmed it is examining claims of a physical altercation between two of its players during a session at the Rei Pelé Training Centre on Sunday.
According to sources, tensions escalated after Robinho Jr., the 18-year-old son of former Brazil and Real Madrid striker Robinho, successfully dribbled past Neymar. The 34-year-old forward is said to have reacted angrily, allegedly feeling disrespected during the play.
Reports suggest Neymar attempted to trip the young forward, leading to a heated confrontation between the pair. Teammates reportedly intervened to separate them as the situation intensified on the training pitch.
In a statement, Santos confirmed awareness of “an alleged physical assault” involving two club players and said its legal department has been tasked with conducting a full inquiry into the matter. The club stressed that the investigation was launched immediately after the incident.
Additional reports from Brazilian media claim Robinho Jr. has made multiple allegations, including accusations of offensive language, physical contact, and a slap during the altercation. He has also reportedly raised concerns over safety conditions at the club and considered discussing his contract situation.
Sources also indicated that Robinho Jr. was left deeply upset by the incident, which has raised concerns within the club’s environment. Meanwhile, Neymar has not publicly commented on the situation, with his representatives declining to provide statements.
Despite the confrontation, attempts were reportedly made by Neymar to calm the situation afterwards, including reaching out to Robinho Jr. and his family to apologise for the exchange.
The incident comes as Santos prepares for its upcoming Copa Sudamericana fixture against Deportivo Recoleta, with both Neymar and Robinho Jr. absent from the club’s recent league match against Palmeiras.
