Samu Omorodion celebrates first FC Porto goal in 27 minutes

Posted : 16 September 2024

Spain's 2024 Olympic gold medalist of Nigerian descent, Samuel Omorodion, needed just twenty-seven minutes to score his first goal for FC Porto.

Omorodion joined Porto from Atlético de Madrid just before the end of the summer transfer window, signing a five-year contract with the Portuguese club. He made his debut as a substitute in Porto's 2-0 defeat to Sporting in their last league match before the international break, playing seventeen minutes at Estádio José Alvalade.

On Sunday, Omorodion made an impressive home debut at Estádio do Dragão, scoring his first goal for Porto within eleven minutes of the start. His goal contributed to Porto’s 2-1 victory over SC Farense.

The striker tapped in from close range after Alan Varela’s shot was saved by the SC Farense goalkeeper. Post-match, Omorodion expressed his delight at scoring his first goal for Porto and contributing to the team’s win.

In an interview with Porto's official website, Omorodion thanked the fans for their support and shared his joy at both the victory and his goal. "Playing at the Dragão in front of our fans is an incredible feeling," he said.

Omorodion’s crucial goal helped Porto secure their second position in the Liga Portugal standings, with 12 points, just three points behind the leaders, Sporting, who remain unbeaten.

Omorodion’s quick adaptation and vital contribution are promising signs for Porto as they continue their league campaign.
