Roy Keane, former Manchester United captain, expressed strong frustration over Marcus Rashford's current situation, suggesting that the 27-year-old forward should be "ashamed" of his recent exile under manager Ruben Amorim. Rashford has not featured for United in seven weeks, with Amorim telling him he needs to change if he is to secure a future at the club.
Despite training with the squad after a period of working alone, Rashford was left out of the squad for their upcoming Europa League match against FCSB, fueling concerns about his future at Old Trafford.
Keane, speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, criticized Rashford's apparent attitude, questioning how the player could be struggling with such basic issues as training properly and preparing for potential transfers.
Keane noted that if Rashford wanted a move, he should be working harder to ensure he would be ready for a new club, demonstrating a better attitude before departing. He added that Rashford’s current predicament was a source of shame, especially given his lack of involvement in the team and the nature of his contract.
Wayne Rooney, another Manchester United legend, shared his own thoughts, recalling a recent encounter at the club's Carrington training ground. He witnessed Rashford working alone with a fitness coach, away from the main group, which Rooney found particularly embarrassing, given that parents and children were walking by.
Rooney empathized with Rashford but also expressed that the forward needed to leave the club to revive his career, acknowledging that something had changed in Rashford’s performance and attitude at Manchester United.
Rashford, who has been a loyal servant to United since coming through their youth ranks, has scored 138 goals in 426 appearances for the club, including seven goals in 24 matches this season. However, his high £300,000-a-week salary and a contract running until 2028 could complicate any potential move, including a rumored loan to Barcelona, as the transfer window draws to a close.
