Ronaldo's milestone goal overshadowed by disrespectful crowd behaviour in Al-Nasr victory

Posted : 17 March 2024

After suffering a significant defeat against Al-Ain in the Asian Champions League, Al-Nasr bounced back in the local Saudi Arabian league, ending a streak of three losses and four winless games across all competitions with a narrow 1-0 victory over Al-Ahly on Friday. Cristiano Ronaldo, amidst a challenging period, initially found the net in the 42nd minute, only for the goal to be disallowed. However, he secured a legitimate goal in the 68th minute from the penalty spot, marking his 50th goal in Saudi Arabia.

Despite narrowing the gap at the top of the league table, Al-Nasr still trails league leaders Al-Hilal by nine points, with a game in hand. Furthermore, the gap between Al-Nasr and third-placed Al-Ahly has also widened to nine points, posing a significant challenge for Al-Nasr's title aspirations.

However, Ronaldo's milestone goal was marred by disrespectful behavior from some fans in the stands, who threw objects, including bottles and fireworks, towards him. This incident led to an act of disrespect towards the Portuguese player, highlighting the need for improved crowd conduct.

Nonetheless, Ronaldo's exceptional form this season places him as the top scorer in the Saudi Arabian league, with 23 goals in 22 games, positioning him ahead of Al-Hilal striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, further underscoring his significance to Al-Nasr's campaign.
